American Music Awards: Why it was a Justin Bieber night

American Music Awards: Why it was a Justin Bieber night
November 22, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): 2010 American Music Awards finally kicked off amidst a plethora of enthusiasm and it was the evening when America came down to honour the ones who serve the music industry. While the names doing the rounds this year were awe-evoking, it was the Pied Piper from Canada who stole the major chunk of limelight.
Being a public-voted award ceremony, we did expect Justin Bieber to swoop an award or two but by grabbing as many as 4 trophies, he made the night his own. Elbowing past the likes of Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Eminem, Bieber ran away with the ‘Artist of the Year’ award- one of the most coveted trophies.
He won three more in the categories of ‘Breakthrough Artist’, ‘Favourite Album, Pop or Rock’ and ‘Favourite Male Artist, Pop or Rock’ and thus marked his unassailable presence. He was humble in his moment of triumph and credited his mentor Usher and the late Michael Jackson for his success.
Meanwhile, Lady Gaga picked up the ‘Favourite Female Artist, Pop or Rock’ award while The Black Eyed Peas were named the ‘Favourite Band’. In the Country category, Taylor Swift and Brad Paisley got the honours for Favourite Female/Male Artist while the favourite Country Band was swept by Lady Antebellum.
Carrie Underwood’s ‘Play On’ was declared the Favourite Country Album. Eminem trotted away with Favourite Male Artist and Album in the Hip-Hop category.
Usher, too, bagged a couple of trophies with Rihanna, Shakira and Michael Buble getting a piece.
